A Night of Poetry and Music for Chicago HOPES

Chicago HOPES Program Director Luis Humberto Valadez is holding an event to commemorate the release of his new poetry book/music and poetry project, "Valid Lush" being release by Plumberries Press! The event will also be a Chicago HOPES fundraiser, serving to help the organization grow and thrive in providing after-school and summer programs to children living in homeless shelters.

The event will be held Sunday June 3rd at Beauty Bar Chicago (1444 W. Chicago Ave.) at 7pm. A $5 suggested donation at the door will go directly to Chicago HOPES. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of "Valid Lush" this evening will also be donated to Chicago HOPES. This is event is 21+ and is being presented by Curbside Splendor Publishing.

Those who have been following Chicago HOPES for a while may recall that Valadez held a similar event when his first book of poetry, "what i'm on" was released in 2009 by University of Arizona Press. Today, as Valadez prepares to step down as Program Director of Chicago HOPES, he is glad to contribute to its enduring legacy with this event.

The event will feature a performance of poetry and music by Valadez and performances and readings from Quraysh Ali Lansana, Krista Franklin, Victor David Giron, Edwin R. Perry, and Cristina Correa. Check out The Columbia Chronicle Story on the event!
